Heya all,
My V4 interface has suddenly started to heat up after about 5-6 minutes
Communication will stop, unplug from OBD & laptop, wait till it cools, then reconnect works again 5-6 minutes
Any ideas??  Should I open?? I use it almost every day........

Oleksandr

just unscrew and replace heated up part...
perhaps that is tantalum capacitor in size D or E

what is minor hardware version? - 4.0 or 4.1 etc.

sparky001

Hi,
Version 4.1
Seems to be 221 cap getting hot. The one closest to the status and activity indicators

Oleksandr

i do not sure if you are right
try replace yellow 477A capacitor with 227J

P.S. 221 is inductor coils

sparky001

Oh I see,  :o
It is the 221 Coil getting hot. Replace the coil or the cap??

Thanks

Oleksandr

try replace yellow cap 477A (470uF 6V3) by new 227J (220uF 16V)

sparky001

#6
Oh, @#$%!!!
I've pulled the pads off the board. Where do they link to??

Oleksandr

#7
you can to solder through hole capacitor

sparky001

Oh,
I can't see hole. Looks to be smd ??

Oleksandr

yes
find contacts and solder wires...
do you sure if you can to do that?
-
may be better to use long way... to send the device for repairing to us

sparky001

Yes,
Would be better to send back *)
Have found the wires - You must have really good eye sight  :o
Will get new cap today & try when I get home

Thanks

Oleksandr

sparky001

Ok,
Working again. Not getting as hot and still communicating after 20+ minutes

Thanks    ;D

sparky001

Works with Forscan - ok
Seems to want top work with JLR V160 - ok

Any ideas??

Oleksandr

look a like hard broken
recheck all transitors in sot-23 package marked as 6C and 5C and diodes WW1
there is couple of them with crack holes due to breakage
look on ICs MAX4664 for the same damages
one of them can be hot because it is broken
really there are many damages can caused the errors...
